Annual General Meeting / Election of Committee
A date for your diary – the AGM this year will be on Tuesday, 31st October at Haverfordwest Rugby Club, starting at 7.30pm. The meeting is open to all members and the bar will be open. The AGM is your chance to have a say about the way the club is run and to elect the committee YOU want.
Faye will be sending nomination forms out by post very soon, so give it some thought – all club members are entitled to stand for election but please, if you are nominating someone else, ask them first!
Committee posts and current post holders are chairman (Dave Underhill), secretary (Faye Underhill), diving officer (Richard Hughes), training officer (Mike Williamson), equipment officer (Rod Fransham), membership (Jackie Williamson), treasurer (Mike Williamson) and social secretary (Dave Hancock). At present we don't have a vice-chairman. The current committee is willing to stand again, with the exception of Mike, who is standing down as training officer after two years in the post.
Being on the committee is fun, rewarding and, being serious about it, it's a chance to give something back to the club. Committee meetings take place once a month and usually last a couple of hours. We take it in turns to meet at each other's homes and the host committee member provides coffee and biscuits (or even the occasional barbecue).
New club members shouldn't be shy about volunteering for the committee and long standing club members would be especially welcome
If you'd like to know more about what it entails, please feel free to have a chat with any of the existing committee members.
Annual Awards Evening & Pot Luck
Another not to be missed date is the high spot of Red Dragon Divers' social calendar: the annual awards evening. This is when we get together, make drunken speeches and present awards to deserving members. This year it will be on Saturday, 25th November at The Granary, Croesgoch. Let's try and make it a big turn out, to get the festive season off to a flying start. Awards include the Moby Dick (for the idiot of the year), wettest diver (obvious what that's for), the divers' diver (voted by all members for the diver who's done the most for the club) and the diving officer's award (the recipient chosen by the diving officer for services to the club).
NB: Would last year's recipients please return the trophies to any committee member at or before the AGM so they can be engraved.
Diving
The club’s diveplan for the last three dives of the season is on the website at www.reddragondivers.org.uk Make the most of these dives – it's a long time till next spring. Remember the sea is at it's warmest at this time of year, so no excuses!
Training
Congratulations to Dave & Faye Underhill, on achieving the status of dive leader. Congratulations too, to Phil Baldry and Peter O'Shea who are now fully fledged ocean divers, to Kim Davies who is almost there and to Justin Edwards who has now completed all his qualifying dives.
End of Season Social
The high spring tide of Sunday, 10th September is one of the biggest of the year, with a range of nearly eight metres. The bad news is, it means we won't be diving. The good news, though, is that it's a chance for an end of season get together. No details yet but Dave Hancock's working on it and he'll let you know as soon as he knows himself. Whatever it is, everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy themselves, including non-diving family and friends.
Other Club News
What's happening to the compressor, now that we don't have a boathouse? How much fuel duty was refunded to the club this year? How do we know the RIBs are safe to go out on the water? The answers to all these questions, and more, have appeared in the digest of minutes that Faye sends out each month.
If you want to know what's going on read the digest!
Social Diary
What do we do when we can't go diving? |
| Red Dragon Divers love their diving. But there are times when the tides are against us or the weather is too rough for diving. On those occasions we get together for socials: pot luck suppers, barbecues, quiz nights, walks and visits to relevant organisations are all popular with members . |

We dive as a club on Sundays and Wednesday evenings from Easter until October each year but still find time to get together and enjoy ourselves in other ways too.
These are just three of our recent events:
A walk in the Gwaun Valley followed by drinks at The Dyffryn Arms (popularly known as Bessie's).
Quiz and Pot Luck evening at Mike and Jackie's.
Barbecue at Mike and Jackie's
Picture shows club members (and their dogs) at Wolfscastle. |
