Training for new divers:
New course begins 7th February 2010
We welcome people with all levels of experience, or no experience at all. Some people come along because scuba diving is something they've always wanted to do. Others join after they have enjoyed a 'try dive', either in the UK or abroad, and want to take it further. Whatever your reason, if you want to learn more about scuba diving, Red Dragon Divers (RDD) will welcome you as a member and train you to become a qualified diver.

RDD usually begins theory and pool training for new divers in January each year. All being well the novices are then ready to dive with the club once the season gets under way at Easter. We have a limited number of places each year and they are offered on a first-come-first-served basis to people on our waiting list.

The first level of training is that of Ocean Diver. This takes several weeks of theory lessons followed by an exam, and pool training which ends with an assessment. Trainees progress at a rate that is comfortable for each individual. They only move on to the next step when they and their instructors are confident that they are competent with each skill.

Please note:  We offer a warm welcome to divers qualified by other training agencies and cross-over training is available free of charge once you join our club. Please contact us for more information.

The cost of Ocean Diver training with Red Dragon Divers is £275 (2010 prices)
This represents very good value for money when compared with commercial diver   training organisations and includes:

New membership of Red Dragon Divers
includes membership for one year, BSAC Ocean Diver Training Pack (see below), instruction, pool and class rental, use of club  equipment for training, use of club boats and fuel for five open water training dives, air fills for all pool and five open water training dives.

Annual membership of BSAC (£50 max, 2010 prices)
lower rates are available in certain circumstances

BSAC Ocean Diver training pack
includes Student Notes for the course, The Diving Manual and qualification

  record book (QRB).

All new members must certify themselves fit to dive in line with BSAC's   requirements and to be eligible for BSAC's insurance. Visit www.bsac.com for   more information on fitness to dive.

Further training:

Divers who are new to Red Dragon Divers but have already started training as British Sub Aqua Club divers may want to develop skills and progress to the next qualification level. The club has a number of qualified instructors who will do their best to help you with this. Please contact Mike Williamson from the training team, for more information.

The club welcomes divers who have been trained by other recognised training organisations, such as PADI or SAA, and is able to organise cross-over training for those who want to convert their qualifications to BSAC.

Numbers of divers being trained at any one time have to be limited to take account of availability of instructors and club equipment. Please remember that the instructors all give their time voluntarily. Training places are allocated on a first come first served basis. It is important that anyone wishing to take further training is fully aware of the commitment that will be required of them in respect of both the time and effort they will need to put into the training and the costs involved.
